Lisa & Cara 

The idea for SoftSocket began when Cara developed a prototype for a more flexible, adaptive prosthetic socket as part of her master’s thesis. After years of friendship and studying together, she reconnected with Lisa — and together they saw the potential to turn this concept into something bigger. Traditional prosthetics often rely on rigid materials that don’t adapt to the user’s body throughout the day, leading to pain, pressure points, and frustration. Lisa and Cara knew this wasn’t good enough. Drawing from their backgrounds in medical engineering and digital innovation, they launched SoftSocket to design prosthetics that are not only functional, but truly comfortable and user-friendly. Their mission: to create a socket that moves with the person, improves quality of life, and restores independence — one design at a time.
